Morocco’s Housing Aid Program Draws Strong Interest from Expats and Women

The direct housing assistance program has been a great success since its launch. As of May 23, 2024, 11,749 people have already benefited from this assistance, out of a total of 73,711 applications filed. Many Moroccans living abroad have applied for this assistance.
This program, set up by the Moroccan government, aims to support access to housing for low-income households. Among the beneficiaries, women, who represent 43% of the beneficiaries, Moroccans living abroad, who constitute 23% of the beneficiaries.
The assistance granted varies according to the price of the housing and the household’s income. It thus allows the beneficiaries to finance part of the acquisition. For 57% of the accepted applications, the price of the housing is between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams.
Beyond the assistance provided to households, the direct housing assistance program also has a positive impact on the Moroccan economy. It has notably contributed, according to Baitas, to the recovery of cement consumption, with an increase of 21.11% between April 2023 and April 2024. Housing loans have also progressed, by 1.4% between March 2023 and March 2024, as have loans granted to real estate developers (+4.2% over the same period).
