Moroccan Expats Embrace King’s New Housing Assistance Program

Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) are among the 8,500 beneficiaries of the new housing assistance program launched by King Mohammed VI last October.
Great success for the new housing assistance program. As of April 19, 2024, the number of beneficiaries stood at 8,500. These figures, directly from the Ministry of National Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy, were communicated by Ghita Mezzour, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, who answered oral questions in the House of Advisors on Tuesday.
In total, more than 65,000 housing assistance applications have been registered nationwide as of the same date, specifies Ghita Mezzour, noting that 20% of them were filed by MREs and 38% by women. 90% of the applications met the criteria to benefit from this assistance within a period not exceeding 30 days. Once this deadline has passed, people who fail to benefit from the service can renew their registrations, the minister also specified.
Launched by King Mohammed VI last October, the new housing assistance program (2024-2028) aims to renew the approach to home ownership, by supplementing household purchasing power, through direct financial assistance to buyers. The amount of direct assistance to buyers is set at 100,000 dirhams for the acquisition of a home whose selling price is less than or equal to 300,000 dirhams including tax. The state will cover one third of the value of the property. As for the acquisition of a home whose price is between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams including tax, the proposed assistance will be 70,000 dirhams. Only Moroccans residing in Morocco or abroad, who are not homeowners in Morocco and who have never benefited from housing assistance, will be the beneficiaries of the assistance.
