Morocco’s Housing Aid Program Sees High Demand, 90% Approval Rate for Applicants

The "Daam Sakane" direct housing assistance program, launched on January 2, 2024, is a success, especially among MREs, says Mustapha Baitas, government spokesman, during the weekly press briefing following the cabinet meeting.
More than 65,000 registration requests have been recorded to date, testifying to considerable enthusiasm from citizens, he said. Among these requests, 90% received a favorable opinion, thus exceeding half of the target set for the year 2024.
"Nearly 90% of the applicants registered to date are eligible for this aid, or more than half of the target set for the 2024 fiscal year," said the official, specifying that as of April 19, 2024, more than 8,500 applicants have already been able to benefit from the state’s aid to acquire their housing.
The analysis of the requests received reveals a strong adherence of Moroccans residing in the Kingdom, who represent 80% of the applicants. The remaining 20% come from MREs (Moroccans Residing Abroad), of whom 62% are men and 38% are women.
Nearly 70% of the requests concern housing with a selling price of less than or equal to 300,000 dirhams, which, according to the spokesman, proves the adequacy of the program to the needs of low-income households.
