Morocco to Host Expanded 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July

The next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations football tournament (WAFCON 2022) will be held in Morocco. This was the decision made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The CAF Executive Committee chose Morocco as the host country for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Friday, January 15, 2021. Contrary to previous editions, 12 teams will compete instead of 8 for the next WAFCON. Another change: the competition will take place in July instead of November to December.
This will be the third edition in which the Atlas Lionesses will participate. In each participation, they have never managed to get past the first round.
In 2020, this competition was supposed to take place in the Republic of Congo, but it had been canceled due to the lack of a host country and the health crisis related to the coronavirus.
