Morocco: Historically, the Atlas Lions climb to 8th place in the world

The Moroccan national team is signing a historic performance in the FIFA ranking of January 2026 by reaching the eighth place in the world. This major consecration allows the Atlas Lions to enter the Top 10 for the first time since 1998, thus surpassing their previous record set in 1993.

This three-place progression is the direct consequence of the performances achieved during the last Africa Cup of Nations. Morocco now surpasses global football powers such as Belgium and Germany, who are respectively relegated to ninth and tenth place, causing Croatia to drop out of the Top 10.

Senegal also benefits from its continental triumph to reach the twelfth place in the world, the best ranking in its history after a leap of seven positions. At the top of the hierarchy, the podium remains unchanged with Spain in the lead, followed by Argentina and France who retain their respective ranks.

The African tournament has benefited other selections on the continent within the top fifty places in the world. Nigeria is making one of the strongest progressions by reaching 26th place, while Cameroon is rising to 45th position. These changes reflect a notable redistribution of forces after the international competition.
