Morocco Hikes Bread Prices as Cost of Living Rises, Following Gas Price Increase

The Association of Bakers of Kelaat M’gouna, in the province of Tinghir, announced an increase in the price of bread starting this Monday, May 20, 2024. The price of a 250-gram loaf will go from 1 dirham to 1.20 dirhams in all bakeries in the Dades basin region.
This decision follows consultations between the members of the office and the members, explains a press release from the Bakers’ Association. It comes in a context marked by the rise in the prices of raw materials, particularly wheat, it is justified.
This increase in the price of bread comes in addition to that of butane gas, announced on Sunday by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Since this Monday, the subsidy allocated to butane gas bottles has been reduced, leading to a price increase of 2.5 dirhams for 3-kilogram bottles and 10 dirhams for 10-kilogram bottles.
