Morocco Held to 1-1 Draw by DR Congo in AFCON Group Stage Match
The football match between the Moroccan team and the Democratic Republic of the Congo team ended in a draw, with a score of 1-1, this Saturday at the "Laurent Pokou" stadium in San Pedro, Côte d’Ivoire, as part of the matches of group six of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
From the start of the first half, Youssef En-Nesyri almost scored a spectacular header goal, but the Congolese goalkeeper pushed the ball away with difficulty. A few minutes later, Achraf Hakimi managed to score the first goal of the match in the 6th minute, following a corner kick taken by Hakim Ziyech.
The Congolese almost equalized in the 33rd minute after a corner. The ball, touched by Romain Saïss, passed very close to the Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou’s right post.
The Congolese team was awarded a penalty, which player Cédric Bakambu missed by hitting the Moroccan goalkeeper’s right post.
The second half started with reciprocal attacks between the Moroccan and Congolese teams, but none were converted into a goal during the first 15 minutes.
However, after several attempts on both sides, the Congolese team managed to equalize in the 77th minute thanks to player Silas.
With this draw, the Moroccan team brings its total to 4 points, consolidating its position at the top of group six, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo team rises to two points.
