Morocco Heatwave Sends France Temperatures Soaring to 25°C
From this Tuesday, 24 February 2026, France will experience a spectacular spring-like shift. Under the influence of a mass of warm air arriving directly from Morocco, temperatures will soar to levels typical of May, reaching 7 to 10°C above seasonal averages.
The explanation for this phenomenon lies in the atmospheric configuration: a southerly flow at altitude is pushing warm Moroccan air toward France. This surge of warmth will be particularly pronounced on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Météo france.

• In the Southwest: Temperatures could climb as high as 25°C. This heat peak will be intensified by the foehn effect: as the air mass crosses the Pyrenees, it compresses and warms sharply as it descends toward the plains.
• Across the rest of the country: Much of France will flirt with 20°C. Temperatures of between 18 and 19°C are expected in Paris, Rennes and Strasbourg.
This unusual mild spell is not without consequences, particularly at altitude:
• Avalanches: The risk is heightened by the rise of the 0°C isotherm to around 3 400 metres in the Alps and the Pyrenees.
• Saturated soils: The situation remains under watch as the ground is already waterlogged or flooded in several areas.

The mild spell should fade starting this Thursday, 26 February. A depression arriving via the tip of Brittany will bring rain from west to east, paving the way for an unsettled weekend marked by new rainy and windy conditions.
