Warm Air from Morocco to Bring Dramatic Temperature Surge Across France

After an episode of snow and ice that paralyzed a large part of the country, France is preparing for a radical temperature change this weekend. The early winter installed by storm Caetano is giving way to a flow of warm air straight from Morocco.
This thaw, accelerated by a depression coming from the British Isles, will drive the cold air towards the east and northeast of the country. From Saturday, temperatures will start to rise dramatically to reach exceptional levels for the season on Sunday.
In Paris, the mercury will soar, rising from 5°C on Friday to 13°C on Sunday. Lyon, Toulouse, Strasbourg and Auxerre will record equally impressive gaps, with maximum temperatures reaching 15°C, 17°C, 13°C and 16°C respectively. The Basque Country and Béarn could even see the thermometer go wild up to 25°C.
While the freezing temperatures of recent days are not uncommon at this time of year, the expected maximums on Sunday are unusual for late November. "This will be at the level of the mildest air masses observed at this time, flirting with records!" specifies Guillaume Séchet, meteorologist, interviewed by 20 minutes.
This sunny and mild weekend will be short-lived, however. From Monday, rains are expected over most of the country and will persist until Wednesday.
