France: A flow from Morocco chases away winter and sends the thermometer up to 15°C

Winter is taking an unexpected pause as the solstice approaches. A warm air current from Morocco is pushing the thermometer well above seasonal norms, bringing a lasting spring-like mildness to France.

A high-pressure system positioned over continental Europe is altering the weather this week. A southwesterly flow, rising directly from the Canary Islands and Morocco, is bringing a mass of warm air that is raising temperatures well beyond the usual standards for a month of December.

The forecasts announce high values in the Loire and Haute-Loire. The mercury will reach up to 15°C in Roanne and Saint-Étienne, while Le Puy-en-Velay will show between 10 and 11°C. These readings represent a deviation of 5 to 8°C from seasonal averages, making winter equipment temporarily unnecessary.

Tuesday will be the sunniest day of the week. While some cloudy periods and showers remain possible in the south of the departments during the weekend, the weather will generally remain calm and accompanied by a southerly wind. Météo France does not anticipate any return of cold or snow before at least December 15, confirming the persistence of this mild episode.
