Morocco heat wave alert: 42°C temperatures expected

After an episode of unusual coolness, Morocco is about to experience an early and intense heat wave. Starting this Tuesday, temperatures will soar, driven by a scorching mass of air coming straight from the Sahara.

The contrast promises to be striking. While snow still recently covered the Atlas peaks due to a cold drop, the Kingdom is preparing to catch fire. From Wednesday to Friday, the thermometer will go haywire displaying between 34 and 42°C, warns the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). The interior of the country will be particularly exposed to these extreme peaks, with extreme peaks expected around Marrakech, thus sweeping away seasonal norms.

This spectacular increase is explained by the dynamics of a powerful southern flow. A subtropical air dome rises directly from the desert to settle over North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. According to observations from La Chaîne Météo, this thermal anomaly could generate vertiginous gaps of 10 to 15°C above usual averages. A scenario remarkable for its early arrival, which strongly recalls the April 2023 records when the ochre city had already crossed the 41°C mark.
