Morocco Halts Police Cooperation with Germany Amid Diplomatic Tensions

No improvement in sight for relations between Morocco and Germany. The Moroccan authorities have just announced that they have interrupted all police cooperation with their German counterparts.
This decision was confirmed by the head of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ), Habboub Cherkaoui. "There is no security cooperation with Germany," he said in an interview with the Rue20 website, specifying that cooperation with Spain continues despite the diplomatic crisis of recent weeks, but warning that it is "threatened".
The breakdown of relations with Germany has deteriorated since last March after Morocco suspended all contact with the Moroccan embassy in Rabat following "deep misunderstandings" on "fundamental issues for the Kingdom of Morocco".

This is the first time that Morocco has suspended its security cooperation with a European country in 7 years. In 2014, the Kingdom had suspended its judicial cooperation with France for several months following the summoning by the French justice of Abdelatif Hamouchi, head of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
That same year, Morocco had protested to Spain following the interception near the city of Ceuta of the yacht in which King Mohammed VI was traveling. The Interior Minister at the time, Jorge Fernández Díaz, had been forced to apologize, as had the Chief of the Ceuta Civil Guard.
