Morocco’s Government Weighs Bailout for Debt-Ridden Royal Air Maroc Amid Pandemic Crisis

Mired in an unprecedented financial crisis, accelerated by the covid-19 pandemic, Royal Air Maroc needs financial assistance to recover. And this will come from the state.
A pillar of the national economy, RAM is weighed down by the burden of its debts contracted long before the appearance of covid-19, to which the effects of the health crisis are added. To date, the company is multiplying negotiations with the government to obtain substantial financial support that should allow it to regain its 2019 level of activity within 24 or 36 months maximum.
While some companies are supported by their government, including Air France, which is about to receive a total of 7 billion euros in bank loans and from the French state to cope with the coronavirus crisis, the Moroccan government must also write the check so that RAM can overcome this global crisis.
Solicited by the company in order to benefit from its financial support, the Moroccan state has other priorities for the time being, namely the management of the covid-19 pandemic and the assistance provided to the most vulnerable population.
In short, the company could only benefit from the support of the Moroccan government in the aftermath of the health crisis raging in the world.
