Morocco’s Goalkeeper Bounou Confident Ahead of World Cup Qualifier Against DR Congo

After finishing absorbing Morocco’s elimination in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Cameroon, goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is resolutely turned towards the future. For him, the objective must be to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
In an interview with La MAP, Yassine Bounou stated that the Moroccan national team is ready and determined to prevail over the Democratic Republic of Congo next March during the play-offs for a place in the World Cup in Qatar. "The big moment has come. The group is fully ready to play this match and achieve its goal of qualifying for this global event," said the Moroccan goalkeeper who plays for FC Seville.
"Our main objective, since the appointment of national coach Vahid Halilhodzic, is to participate in the World Cup to be held in Qatar and restore the luster of Moroccan football on the international stage," said the one who is considered one of the revelations of the Spanish championship in the last two seasons.
The Moroccan goalkeeper took the opportunity to reflect on the elimination of the Atlas Lions against the Egyptian Pharaohs in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Far from any frustration, Bounou only draws positive lessons that can help the Lions improve their next performances. "All the matches played in Cameroon were very useful in a difficult African context," he stressed.
Finally, Yassine Bounou commented on the award he received from La Liga. "We Africans have this responsibility to play well and convey a good image to open the door to other talents who can evolve in the future in the Spanish championship," said the Moroccan goalkeeper who has played 20 matches with FC Seville, all competitions combined. He has conceded only 13 goals, thus helping the club to position itself in second place in the La Liga standings.
