Morocco Gas Distributors Launch Strike Amid Soaring Fuel Prices

Distributors of domestic gas bottles will observe an open strike on June 29 and 30, following the non-satisfaction of their demands by the government, in a context of continued soaring fuel prices in Morocco. The strike duration could be extended.
According to the press release published by the professional association of wholesale LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) depositaries, the owners deplored during another meeting, the excessive rise in fuel prices and in particular diesel, not to mention the surge in spare parts and tires, as well as other transport costs.
"During a meeting of the regional presidents of the association, held in Casablanca, the situation of professionals who risk going bankrupt in the absence of any proposals to solve the problems facing the sector was studied," the same source said.
This decision was taken since the government did not respond favorably to the association’s demands, it is explained. "Thus, and after long discussions, we have found that it has become impossible to maintain the distribution of gas cylinders normally. It has therefore been decided to suspend distribution on June 29 and 30. This duration may be extended," the association threatens.
