Morocco’s 50-Game Futsal Streak Ends, Star Player Eyes World Cup Glory

Soufian Charraoui looks back on the incredible 50-game unbeaten streak of the Moroccan futsal team, which was ended by Spain on Monday, August 12 in Rabat with a 2-4 victory in a friendly match. The 27-year-old player remains convinced that Morocco will win the next Futsal World Cup to be held in Uzbekistan from September 14 to October 6, 2024.
In an exclusive interview with the FIFA website, the 27-year-old player expressed his pride in this unbeaten streak. "It was really incredible... We train a lot, we work very hard. The coach prepares us for each match. We want to win every game. But obviously, we don’t imagine that we’re going to stay 50 games unbeaten. I can’t believe we did it," said Charraoui, who attributes this result to the coach’s hard work over the past 10 or 15 years.
"He’s an extraordinary man. We’ve learned a lot from him and we continue to learn from him. He brings out the best in us. Everyone has a lot of respect for him and the other coaches. We’re like his children," he confided about Hicham Dguig, also thanking the Moroccans for their unwavering support. "I really believe we have the best support in the world... People have become very attached to us. That means a lot to us."
The top scorer of the African Nations Cup for futsal, won by Morocco in April, assures that he is thriving with the Moroccan team. "Before, I played in the LNFS (Spanish futsal league). Returning to Morocco is the best decision of my life. I feel super good. I was very satisfied with my performances at the CAN and against Spain. I hope I can maintain this level and help the team for the World Cup. I hope to participate. It’s really special, because it would be my first World Cup."
And he concludes: "I think in the last two years, we’ve really shown our potential. We have a great team with great players - for me, the best group of players in the world - and the best coach in the world. We can’t wait to participate in this World Cup and win it. It’s true, winning a World Cup is not an easy thing. We’ll find Brazil, Spain and Portugal, but we’ll do everything to finish top of the group and win the title. I believe in it completely."
