Algeria on Brink of World Cup 2026 Qualification: Fennecs Eye Crucial Win in Morocco

Following its victory (3-1) against Botswana last Thursday, the Algerian national team is in a very favorable position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Its match in Morocco could accelerate this qualification.
Leaders of Group G with 18 points, the Fennecs have a six-point lead over their pursuers, Uganda and Mozambique, with three games left in the qualifiers.
Mathematically, qualification is within reach. Four points in the last three games would be enough for Algeria to definitively secure its place, which would mark a fifth participation in its history in a World Cup final phase, after missing the 2018 and 2022 editions.
Qualification could even be acquired as early as this Monday, September 8th. For this, Algeria must imperatively win against Guinea, in a match relocated to Casablanca. This victory should be combined with two other favorable results in the group: a draw or a defeat for Uganda against Somalia, and a similar result for Mozambique against Botswana.
If these conditions are not met on Monday, the Fennecs will have two other opportunities in October to validate their ticket, during a trip to Somalia and then for the reception of Uganda. Thanks to a very favorable goal difference (+12), Algeria has a comfortable advantage over its direct competitors for qualification.
