Former Barcelona Star Munir El Haddadi Makes Shock Move to Iranian Giants Esteghlal

The 30-year-old Spanish-Moroccan striker Munir El Haddadi has signed with the Iranian club Esteghlal of Tehran. Free from any contract, the former FC Barcelona player has signed a two-year contract, plus one option year, for an amount that could reach $2.5 million.
This recruitment is presented as one of the most important in the recent history of the Iranian club, which is seeking to strengthen its squad with players of international experience for its national and continental competitions. The team’s coach, Ricardo Sá Pinto, considered Munir’s arrival as a priority, particularly for his versatility in attack.
Trained at La Masia, the FC Barcelona academy, Munir El Haddadi made his professional debut in 2014. He then played in several clubs in the Spanish first division, such as Sevilla, Valencia or Getafe, playing 267 official matches. At the international level, he first represented Spain before choosing the Moroccan national team.
This transfer to Iran marks a new stage in the striker’s career, away from Europe. He will try to regain a leading role and become the offensive reference of one of the main clubs in Asia, after also being courted by Croatian and Spanish clubs.
