Morocco Futsal Coach Urges Tactical Shift Ahead of Africa Cup of Nations
Friday 12 April 2024, by
Hicham Dguig, the national futsal coach, believes that efforts should be redoubled to diversify the style of play, especially during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN2024) which takes place from April 11 to 21 of the same month at the Ibn Yassine Hall and the Sports Palace of the Prince Moulay Abdallah Sports Complex in Rabat.
"All teams are now aware of the way the Atlas Lions play, as well as their strengths and weaknesses." These are the words of the Moroccan futsal coach, spoken at a press conference on Wednesday. Based on this observation, Hicham Dguig believes that this will increase the pressure on him as a coach to take responsibility for seeking tactical solutions, in order to find effective alternatives against the African teams during the CAF TotalEnergies Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, which began on Thursday, in Morocco. "This obliges us to redouble our efforts to diversify our style of play," he added. The Moroccan coach also emphasized the "humility" that is extremely important to win the victory despite the superiority of the Moroccan team in the competition.
These remarks by Hicham Dguig echo the statement made by Azeddine Ounahi at the end of the friendly match against Mauritania at the Adrar stadium in Agadir, which ended in a goalless draw (0-0). The Moroccan international had stated that the style of play of the Atlas Lions was now known to all teams. "We have to change our style and look for a new way of playing to face the teams in the future," he added, pointing the finger at Walid Regragui’s strategy.
On Thursday, Morocco defeated Angola 5-2 at the Palais des Sports Hall of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, for the 1st day of Group A of the Africa Cup of Nations
