Morocco food prices June 2026: vegetables down, fish up

The consumer price index fell by 0.4% in June compared to May, according to the High Commission for Planning. This decline is mainly explained by a 0.8% decrease in food product prices, accompanied by a 0.2% drop in non-food products.

Vegetables recorded the most marked decline, with a drop of 5.2% in one month. Prices for milk, cheese and eggs also fell by 1.9%. Meat, as well as bread and cereals, declined by 0.3%, while oils and fats decreased by 0.1%.

Fish takes the opposite path

However, not all food products benefited from this lull. Fish and seafood saw their prices increase by 3.4% between May and June, the strongest rise recorded in food. Fruits also rose by 0.8%, compared to 0.2% for coffee, tea and cocoa.

Over a year, food prices remain on a downward trend. Their index fell by 2.3% compared to June 2025. This contrasts with non-food products, which became 2.3% more expensive over the same period.

Overall, annual inflation stood at just 0.3% in June. Core inflation, which excludes products with the most volatile prices and those subject to public tariffs, fell by 0.1% year-on-year.
