Tuesday 15 April 2025, by Sylvanus

Morocco has not been drawn into an easy group during the draw for the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Egypt-2025). This competition will see the participation of 13 teams, including Tunisia, Nigeria and Senegal.

A mountain to climb? Morocco has been drawn into Group B. The Atlas Cubs will face Nigeria (the most successful nation with seven titles) and Tunisia in the group stages, according to the draw held in Cairo. They will then face Kenya. Morocco, African champions in 1997, had secured their ticket for the final phase of the U20 CAN after finishing top of the UNAF qualifications, organized in the Egyptian city of Suez last November.

Three-time champions of the competition, Egypt, the host country, is placed in Group A. The Egyptians will cross cleats with Zambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Tanzania. Defending champions Senegal are placed in Group C composed of the Central African Republic, DR Congo and Ghana.

At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each pool as well as the two best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals. From this stage, the competition will continue in a knockout format. The four best teams will obtain their qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025. This will be held from September 27 to October 19, 2025 in Chile.

The U20 CAN will take place from April 27 to May 18, 2025 in Egypt.
