Morocco U20 Secures Quarter-Final Spot with 3-1 Victory over Tunisia in AFCON

The Moroccan U20 national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025 by beating Tunisia 3-1 this Wednesday in Ismailia. This victory ensures the Atlas Young Lions the first place in Group B.

Before this decisive final day of Group B, Morocco needed a win to guarantee first place, although a draw was enough for qualification. Tunisia and Nigeria were also in contention for the final stages. From the start, the Moroccans exerted constant pressure, which materialized in the 44th minute with a goal from Ayman Arguigue, leading 1-0 at half-time.

Upon returning from the locker room, Tunisia quickly equalized, reviving the match. A first place for Morocco meant facing the second of Group A (Egypt, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania), while a second place would have pitted them against the second of Group C.

Despite this equalizer, the Atlas Young Lions intensified their efforts. The match remained competitive, with the Moroccan defense showing solidity against Tunisian attempts. The decision came late in the game: Smail Bakhty gave Morocco the lead again in the 86th minute, before Jones El-Abdellaoui sealed the victory in the 90th minute (3-1). Morocco thus finishes top of its group and will face the second of Group A in the quarter-finals.
