Morocco Edges Egypt 1-0, Advances to U20 AFCON Final Against South Africa

The Moroccan U20 national team qualified for the final of the U20 AFCON Egypt 2025 by beating the host country, Egypt, 1-0 this Thursday in Cairo. Morocco will face South Africa, who defeated Nigeria.
From the start, Morocco displayed its ambition to qualify and aimed for a second continental title, like the U17s and the women’s futsal team. The Moroccans tried to destabilize the Egyptian goalkeeper but lacked realism in their finishing. Egypt mainly proceeded with counter-attacks.
Despite more insistent Moroccan offensives, neither team opened the score before the break. The Atlas Cubs’ attempts remained unsuccessful, as did the Egyptian maneuvers against the Moroccan goalkeeper, resulting in a 0-0 score at half-time.
In the second half, both teams sought to score, but the goalkeepers of both teams distinguished themselves. Morocco continued to lack precision in its chances, while Egypt persisted with counter-attacks.
Jones El-Abdellaoui scored for Morocco in the 78th minute, putting his team in a favorable position. Egypt then intensified its efforts to equalize and force extra time, while Morocco sought to consolidate its advantage.
In the final minutes, despite Egyptian attempts to equalize and Morocco’s efforts to widen the gap, haste prevented the score from changing. The match concluded with this 1-0 Moroccan victory, validating their qualification.
Morocco will therefore face South Africa in the final of the U20 AFCON Egypt 2025, on Sunday, May 18 at 8:00 PM, at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.
