Morocco Faces Malawi in Crucial Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 Match

After an almost flawless first group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) with two wins and a draw, Morocco enters the second phase of the 33rd edition of the CAN Cameroon 2021 on Tuesday, January 25. The Atlas Lions take on Malawi to secure their ticket to the quarter-finals.
The match on Tuesday is crucial for both teams. In any case, for the Lions, there is no question of living the fiasco of 2019, against Benin. Some players have still not managed to digest it. This is the case of Fayçal Fajr, tested positive for Covid-19, and who will not be part of the match against Malawi.
The Malawi Flames will not give in. Their attitude during the CAN qualifiers is proof of their determination to go far. Asked about the potential of this team participating in the CAN for the first time, Adil Erradi, Moroccan coach of the Rwandan Patriotic Army (APR), indicates that "the Malawi team emerged from a tough group that included Senegal and Guinea, great nations of African football. Malawi is a selection known for its physical play and can create a surprise against any team".
The coach of the Moroccan national team is aware of what is at stake. He knows that against Malawi, he will have to show caution and realism. The match against Gabon revealed some tactical flaws that Vahid Halilhodzic will try to correct. Adil Erradi believes that "the draw against Gabon was a good result. I also noticed that this Moroccan team has character. It has managed to come back twice. These are qualities of a team playing for the title".
The two teams are therefore playing on an equal footing in terms of potential, determination, and commitment. The only difference is the number of participations. The Morocco - Malawi match is this Tuesday, January 25 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé, starting at 8:00 p.m.
