Morocco Faces Generational Shift in National Team Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco is preparing for a historic event: hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. After the resounding success of Qatar in 2022, the Kingdom is entering the big leagues, but will have to meet major challenges.

The euphoria of the organization gives way to a crucial question: what team will represent Morocco in 2030? The challenge of generational renewal is immense, notes Al3omk. Many of the players who shone in Qatar will be approaching forty, and some of the main elements of the team due to their advanced age or declining physical condition could be missing.

Thus, Hakim Ziyech, the former Chelsea player, will be 37 years old. His transfer to Turkey having marked a certain slowdown in his career, his participation is uncertain. The same goes for goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who will be 40 years old. Despite his exploits in Qatar, it will be difficult to maintain such a level at that age.

Striker Youssef En-Nesyri, author of a historic goal against Portugal, will be 33 years old. The competition from young talents could deprive him of a place in the national team. As for defender Nayef Aguerd, he will reach the critical age of 34 for his physically demanding position.

However, the future of Moroccan football does not end there. A new promising generation is preparing to take over. Brahim Díaz (31 years old in 2030), Abdessamad Ezzalzouli (28 years old), Azzedine Ounahi (30 years old) and Noussair Mazraoui (33 years old) will be at the peak of their art. Not to mention Eliesse Ben Seghir, who at 25 years old could well establish himself as a key element of the team.

The 2030 World Cup will therefore be an opportunity for these young Atlas Lions to roar on their home soil and continue the epic begun by their elders. While the absence of certain iconic figures will leave a void, Morocco has every reason to believe in its football future.
