Morocco Eyes South Korean K2 Black Panther Tank for Military Modernization

Morocco continues the modernization of its army and would like to acquire the K2 Black Panther battle tank, developed by South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem and considered one of the most advanced in the world.

After drones, fighters, and other defense systems acquired from Israel, the United States, China, and Turkey, Rabat would be showing interest in the South Korean K2 Black Panther battle tank, considered one of the best in the world. Designed by Hyundai Rotem, this fourth-generation tank combines power, mobility, and advanced protection, according to La Razon.

The K2 Black Panther features a 120 mm (55 caliber) gun capable of firing smart shells such as the KSTAM, a high-precision fire control system, active protection systems, and an advanced tactical communication system allowing real-time coordination between units and central command. Equipped with a 1,500 hp diesel engine, this tank can travel at a speed of 70 km/h on roads and 50 km/h on difficult terrain.

By showing interest in the K2 Black Panther, Morocco demonstrates its determination to position itself as a military power in North Africa. The kingdom has increased its defense budget for a decade, reaching 133 billion dirhams in 2025.
