Morocco Rises to 59th in Global Military Power Rankings

Morocco positions itself as the 59th military power in the world out of a total of 145 countries, according to the 2025 ranking of Global Firepower.
Morocco obtained a score (Power Index) of 1.1273 (0.0000 being the best score), placing it in 59th place in the global ranking, while it was the 61st military power in the world last year. Among African countries, the kingdom comes in seventh place, behind Egypt (14th worldwide), Algeria (26th), South Africa (33rd), Nigeria (36th), Ethiopia (49th) and Angola (55th).
Some 200,000 active military personnel and 150,000 reservists and 50,000 paramilitary personnel make up the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). In total, the Moroccan army has more than 15 million active soldiers, the report indicates, noting that in terms of equipment, the army has 903 tanks, 7,877 armored vehicles, 396 self-propelled artillery units, 153 towed artillery pieces and 129 mobile rocket launchers.
As for the Royal Air Force, it has a fleet of 260 aircraft, including 83 fighter jets, 2 tanker aircraft and 78 helicopters, allowing it to ensure optimal surveillance of the kingdom’s airspace. The Royal Navy, for its part, is equipped with a fleet of 6 frigates, a corvette and 105 patrol boats. Essential equipment for the protection of the Moroccan coasts and the securing of strategic maritime areas such as the Strait of Gibraltar.
Over the past decade, Morocco has continuously increased its defense budget, reaching nearly 135 billion dirhams for 2025 (more than 13 billion euros). As in previous years, the kingdom will devote this amount to the acquisition of modern equipment and the development of the national defense industry, with the support of its privileged allies, the United States and Israel.
