Morocco Expected to Celebrate Eid al-Fitr on May 24, Astronomer Predicts

According to the astronomical calculations of the Moroccan researcher, Abdelaziz Kherbouch El Ifrani, the Eid al-Fitr festival will take place on Sunday, May 24. The information remains to be confirmed visually by the Ministry of Habous.
Relying on tables deciphering the position of the stars, known as the Zij, El Ifrani stated that the crescent moon of the month of Shawwal 1441 would be visible on May 23 (29 Ramadan) in the eastern regions.
The event will be preceded by an alignment between the sun and the moon, in the evening of May 22, exactly around 7:40 p.m., specified the Moroccan astronomer.
The month of Ramadan will thus last 29 days in Morocco and 30 in other Muslim countries, where Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated simultaneously with the kingdom. However, some countries in the Far East will be an exception, added El Ifrani.
