Agadir Crackdown: 320 Kilos of Unsafe Food Seized in Tourist Hotspots

A joint commission composed of representatives from the economic affairs control service and the coordination of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, the regional tourism delegation, the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA), as well as local authorities and the Municipal Hygiene Office, proceeded to seize and destroy a significant quantity of products unfit for consumption or of unknown origin.
A good harvest for the joint commission in charge of supervising the intensive inspection campaigns targeting seven restaurants and tourist accommodation establishments in Agadir. In total, 320 kilograms of products unfit for consumption or of unknown origin were seized and destroyed this week. These interventions are part of the ongoing preparations for the summer season, in order to strengthen the protection of public health and preserve consumer rights.
The seized products include various categories of meat, fish and frozen products. In detail, 77 kilograms of red meat, 23 kilograms of fish, 19 kilograms of beldi (farm) chicken, 29.75 kilograms of minced meat, in addition to 30 kilograms of white meat and 22.5 kilograms of sausages were seized. 42 kilograms of burgers, 51 kilograms of briouates and pastilla, 10 kilograms of frozen bread, 3 kilograms of frozen green beans, 7 kilograms of peas, 2.5 kilograms of chickpeas, as well as 3 kilograms of prepared chicken broth, are also among the quantities of unfit products seized.
In addition to the seizure of products, the commission also drew up official reports of offenses against certain establishments for non-compliance with the law on freedom of prices and competition, in particular regarding the absence of invoicing, the use of prohibited plastic bags, as well as the absence of display of prices and service rates, in clear violation of the provisions of the law on consumer protection.
