Morocco Expands Airport Capacity to Boost Tourism: 50 Million Dirham Investment

As part of its investment plan called Envol 2025, the National Airports Office (ONDA) has launched several projects to support the growth of the activity of the airports of Marrakech, Agadir and Tanger. Ultimately, these works will allow an increase of 25 to 50% in the reception capacity of the three platforms.
Questioned in the House of Councillors on investments in Moroccan airports to support the growth of tourism, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, recalled the projects launched by ONDA and which are currently being implemented on certain airport platforms.
The minister said that an investment of 50 million dirhams has been committed to relieve the pressure in the Marrakech, Agadir and Tanger airports. These works will be carried out over a period of 15 months and will allow an increase of 25 to 50% in the reception capacity of the three airports.
In addition, there are other projects involving the construction of new terminals that will require an envelope of more than 4 billion dirhams for a construction period of 3 to 5 years, the aim being to support the expected influx by 2040.
Regarding the improvement of the quality of services in certain airports in the Kingdom, Abdeljali stressed that measures have been taken to improve the quality of services. He cited, among other things, the expansion of parking lots in several airports, equipping them with video surveillance cameras, and the development of a computer system that allows identifying problems encountered in certain airport infrastructures, in order to take the necessary measures.
