Morocco to Expand Highway Network by 1,000 km Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco plans massive investments to strengthen its motorway network before the 2030 World Cup it is organizing alongside Spain and Portugal. In total, 1,000 additional kilometers should be built before this major football event.
The main projects included in the 2025-2027 investment program of the National Motorway Company concern the realization of the continental highway Rabat-Casablanca, the Tit Mellil-Berrechid project, as well as the development of the Sidi Maârouf and Aïn Harrouda interchanges. These projects should require an investment of 7.74 billion dirhams, including 2.658 billion dirhams in 2025, 2.450 billion in 2026 and 2.630 billion in 2027.
These data are provided by the report of public establishments annexed to the draft finance law. The document reviews the activities of the National Motorway Company, whose turnover reached 3.725 billion dirhams in 2023, up 10% compared to 2022. The company recorded a positive net result of 1.65 billion dirhams in 2023, compared to a loss of 669 million dirhams in 2022, the report notes.
For the year 2023, Autoroutes du Maroc made a total investment of 901 million dirhams, or 55% of the annual forecasts estimated at 1.650 billion dirhams. In the first half of 2024, the company’s turnover was 1.826 billion dirhams, compared to 1.688 billion dirhams in the same period of 2023. According to forecasts, the turnover should reach 4.025 billion dirhams at the end of the year, an increase of 8% compared to last year.
The investment program is 42% completed at the end of June 2024, the report notes, noting a financial lag of 853 million dirhams. By
