Morocco to Expand Diplomatic Presence in Israel, Signals Growing Ties

Present since Sunday at the "historic" Negev Summit, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita has announced that Morocco plans to strengthen its diplomatic presence in Israel.

Thus making his first visit to the Hebrew state since the normalization of relations between the two countries, Nasser Bourita expressed his satisfaction with the evolution of bilateral cooperation.

"Our presence is a message to our people and to all the peoples of the region and a confirmation of the positive dynamic and our conviction in peace based on common values and interests," he said.

The Moroccan Foreign Minister also stressed that "since the signing of the trilateral declaration in December 2020, we have accomplished a lot through the exchange of visits and communication between the two peoples, the conclusion of many agreements and direct flights", adding that the diplomatic presence of Morocco in Israel will soon be strengthened.

For his part, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said that "the Negev summit sends a strong message to the extremist forces, led by Iran, who are trying to destabilize the region."

And to add: "What we are building is a united front committed to peace, prosperity and stability. A privileged relationship allowing us to fight together against attacks against Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, terrorist attacks against Israel and attempts to weaken the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco. We are determined to bring prosperity and peace to this region and beyond."
