Morocco Emerges as Africa’s Top Retirement Haven, Ranks 24th Globally

With an overall score of 81.51 points, Morocco ranks first among retirement destinations in Africa and 24th globally, according to the latest "Global Retirement Report 2025" published by the migration and investment advisory firm "Global Citizen Solutions". The kingdom owes these positions to its many assets for those who wish to enjoy their retirement in an attractive and affordable setting: simplified procedures for settling and obtaining nationality. The steps to obtain a retirement visa are quick, with a processing time of only two months and a minimum monthly income requirement of $1,000.

Retirees who wish to fully integrate have the possibility of obtaining Moroccan nationality after five years of legal residence. Other assets: its high quality of life and stable environment. Moreover, Morocco ranks 7th in the economic index and 16th in terms of quality of life. Portugal, Mauritius, Spain, Uruguay and Austria make up the top 5 best retirement destinations. This breakthrough is explained by their economic assets, quality of life and attractive visa programs. In Africa, Morocco outperforms Cape Verde, South Africa, Zambia and Namibia.

The "Global Retirement Report 2025" evaluated 44 passive income and retirement visa programs in 44 countries. Each of them offers unique possibilities for those wishing to embark on their next chapter abroad. The study is based on 20 key indicators, grouped into six thematic categories: procedures, citizenship and mobility, economy, taxes, quality of life and security. The report also highlighted the importance placed on quality of life. More than 70% of the programs show above-average results in terms of healthcare, environmental quality and overall well-being.
