Morocco Edges Gambia 1-0 in U20 AFCON Opener

The Atlas Cubs got off to a good start in the U20 AFCON, thanks to a victory against The Gambia Scorpions (1-0). The match took place on Tuesday, February 16 in Nouadhibou, Mauritania.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 24th minute, on a penalty, by El Mehdi Moubarik. Zakaria Aboub’s protégés are aiming for the podium and have promised to give themselves the means to achieve it. The Moroccan selection is returning to this African competition after 15 years of absence. Next Friday, the Moroccans will face the Namibians before taking on Tanzania, crushed by Ghana 4-0, on Monday.
In addition to Mauritania, which is the host country, 11 countries are participating in this continental event. There are Morocco, Tunisia, Gambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Namibia, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic and Cameroon.
