Morocco Edges Burkina Faso 1-0 in Friendly Match, Ounahi Scores Winner

The Moroccan national team defeated Burkina Faso in a friendly match, which ended 1-0, on Tuesday, on the pitch of the Bollaert stadium in Lens, France.
The only goal of the evening was scored by midfielder Azeddine Ounahi, in the 36th minute, assisted by Amine Adli, the Bayer Leverkusen striker who was making his debut with the national team. Before kick-off, a minute of silence was observed and a banner was displayed in tribute to the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit the Marrakech region.
From the start of the match, the Atlas Lions dictated the pace, putting the Burkina Faso defense and midfield under pressure. Despite a series of unsuccessful offensives against the Burkinabe defensive wall, they finally found the breakthrough thanks to a superb combination between Ounahi and Adli. The second half was also marked by a surge in power of the Moroccan team, notably with the entries of Ismael Saibari and Zakaria Aboukhlal who revitalized the attack.
The match was part of the preparation of the Atlas Lions for the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. Note that their match against Liberia, originally scheduled for last Saturday for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, had been postponed.
