Morocco Eases Vehicle Import Rules for Expats Returning Home

With a view to streamlining the return of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) during the Marhaba 2024 operation, the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) has implemented new facilitation measures. These provisions aim to simplify the customs procedures related to the temporary admission (TA) of vehicles imported by MREs.
From now on, MREs can benefit from a six-month extension for the stay of their vehicles imported under TA, without penalty or interruption of stay. This measure concerns TAs expiring from December 1st of each year. The extension will be granted upon simple request from the TA subscriber or their agent, accompanied by the required supporting documents.
MREs who have already consumed their TA right during the current year will be able, from December 1st, to import a new vehicle under TA for a period of six months, to be counted from the following year.
The temporary importation of vehicles covered by a Provisional Registration Certificate (CPI) is now authorized, provided that this document is valid and issued in the name of the TA subscriber. The duration of the temporary admission will correspond to the validity of the CPI.
Similarly, the transfer of TA of motor vehicles between MREs in Morocco is now authorized, without requiring that the two parties be residents of the same country.
