Morocco Eases Entry for Business Travelers, Tourism Sector Awaits Clarity

While foreigners and business visitors can now disembark on special flights provided they have an invitation from companies and hotel reservations, Moroccan tourism professionals are waiting to be enlightened.
The decision to include business visitors was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the request of the CGEM. These visitors must comply with the health measures imposed by the authorities, including the obligation to carry out the required Covid-19 screening tests in advance. A decision confirmed last Sunday by an internal letter from the consular and social affairs department addressed to the air transport department.
No official text mentions the reopening of borders, but rather a facilitation of access to the national territory for foreigners and business visitors, we read on l’Economiste.
This lack of detail is disrupting tourism professionals who, however, are delighted at the prospect of a potential reopening. The Royal Air Maroc airline has rushed to increase its capacity. It must be said that tourism, at a low ebb since last March, is clinging to any hope of a recovery in order not to lose the year 2021.
For Lahcen Zelmat, president of the National Federation of the Hotel Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must provide dates and details on the entire process, including the obligation of screening tests.
"Just as the closure of borders to tourists was decided and communicated by the government, the opening must benefit from the same procedure," says a travel agent in Marrakech.
