Morocco’s Domestic Tourism Surges, Accounting for 30% of Hotel Stays in 2024

In 2024, hotels in Morocco were fully booked. Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, presented the results.
The number of overnight stays for domestic tourism in classified hotels reached around 8.5 million in 2024, representing 30% of the total recorded in these establishments, said Fatim-Zahra Ammor, responding to an oral question on the promotion of domestic tourism, asked by the Socialist - Ittihadi Opposition group, on Monday in the House of Representatives. The main challenge is to "promote domestic tourism throughout the year, and not just seasonally, in order to allow Moroccans to enjoy the tourist assets of their country," the minister stressed, adding that domestic tourism has become a fundamental pillar of the national tourism sector, highlighting its growing importance during the health crisis related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The minister also mentioned the 2023-2026 roadmap. It has dedicated two thematic sectors to domestic tourism ("Seaside" and "Nature & Discovery") with the aim of developing new tourism products adapted to the purchasing power of Moroccan tourists, while benefiting from cross-cutting sectors and structuring projects, she specified. This roadmap includes a set of measures, including the launch of new domestic air routes, the encouragement of investments in the tourism products most in demand by Moroccan tourists, as well as the strengthening of the promotion of domestic tourism through the "Ntla9awfbladna" campaign.
These measures aim to improve connectivity between the different Moroccan tourist destinations in order to open up certain regions.
