Morocco’s Diesel Reserves Plummet to 26-Day Supply, Minister Warns

The national security stock of diesel covered only 26 days of consumption needs as of April 11, or less than half of the required period of 60 days, said Energy Minister Leila Benali.
Speaking before deputies on the surge in fuel prices and the measures taken by the government, the minister said that diesel reserves stood at 437,000 tons, corresponding to 26 days of domestic consumption.
As for gasoline, the stock is at 43 days, or 83,000 tons, compared to a stock of 34 days for kerosene (36,000 tons), 83 days (233,000 tons) for fuel oil and 26 days for butane gas.
In this regard, Benali stressed that projects are being implemented to increase the capacity of oil reserves from 550,000 tons to 1.8 million tons by 2023, for a total investment of 2 billion dirhams.
Explaining the evolution of fuel prices at the pump, compared to the evolution of crude prices, the minister also said the government planned to index the cost of transportation to fuel prices, following demands from industry professionals.
