Morocco Develops First Locally-Produced Cancer Screening Kits, Set for Market Launch

The first screening kits for cancer, produced locally in Morocco, will soon be on the market. The country is currently carrying out the final tests of this innovation to ensure its effectiveness.
The initiative to produce such kits was taken in 2010 by the Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Sciences, Innovation and Research (MASciR). This project is coming to an end in a few months, reports The Guardian, according to which these 100% Moroccan cancer screening tests will soon be marketed.
The kingdom is currently carrying out the final tests, as required by the protocol, to ensure their effectiveness. Before this stage, the kits have gone through several steps, including obtaining national and international validation. The goal is to get Africa out of dependence on imported treatments and vaccines.
According to Hassan Sefrioui, a member of the MASciR foundation, this invention will eventually make it possible to no longer resort to Western countries to carry out this type of analysis. To date, most of the kits are imported from Europe or the United States, he noted. And to specify: "the price of the kit can be double what it would cost to manufacture it locally. It is also a long process. It can take weeks or months for the kits to arrive."
