Morocco Destroys 20 Tons of Cannabis, Millions of Cigarettes in Major Drug Bust

The security services of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab have seized significant quantities of narcotics, cigarettes and contraband products. Under the supervision of a Joint Commission composed of representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, public authorities, the Customs Administration and Civil Protection, these various products were incinerated on Friday, July 19, 2019.
More than 20 tons of cannabis, 548 units of psychotropic tablets, 4,272,800 units of cigarettes, as well as more than two tons of honey tobacco, among others, were incinerated in an isolated area, located at PK 40, north of the city of Dakhla, reports the MAP. Similarly, 29,756 units of medical products, 55,570 units of veterinary products and 12,037 units of pesticides were destroyed.
Speaking to the press, Taha El Mahfoudi, Ordonnateur at the Provincial Customs Directorate, said that this operation to destroy significant quantities of narcotics, cigarettes and spoiled products, seized over the past four months, proves the effectiveness of all the security services composed of the Royal Gendarmerie, the National Security and the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
For his part, Hicham Baraka, Deputy Prosecutor of the King near the Court of First Instance of Oued Eddahab, said that the total value of the quantities of drugs, cigarettes and contraband products that were incinerated during this operation is close to 22 billion cents.
According to him, this action is part of the efforts made by the security services to fight the trafficking of these products. These, he said, have an impact on the economy of the Kingdom, on the health and on the security of citizens.
