Morocco Crowns First Female "Miss Donkey" in Historic Festibaz Competition

After five years of lethargy, the "Festibaz" Competition, which promotes the donkey, took place this year. In the end, "Cleopatra", a female donkey, was elected the first "Miss Beauty of the Donkeys of Morocco". A first.
The 12th edition of the "Festibaz" Competition ended with the historic consecration of a female donkey. "Cleopatra" became the first "Miss Beauty of the Donkeys of Morocco" after triumphing over her male competitors, a historic moment for "Festibaz", organized in the center of the country, reports AFP.
The prize for the lucky winner is 2,500 dirhams (240 euros) and a sack of barley. Abdeljalil, 26, the owner of the female donkey, was delighted not to have been mistaken in naming the animal "Cleopatra", in reference to the ancient Egyptian queen known for her beauty.
As a prelude to the beauty contest, a race pitted about twenty donkeys over a distance of one kilometer, to the amused gaze of a crowd of children and adolescents, the same source specifies.
After this stage, a wasteland, usually reserved for the rare sporting activities of the village of Beni Ammar, served as the setting for the beauty contest.
In the final sprint, it was "Cleopatra", "this devoted and tireless animal", who won the votes, ahead of "Oscar" or "Queen of the West", after fierce competition, concludes the same source.
