Morocco Cracks Down on YouTubers and Influencers for Unpaid Taxes

In Morocco, the services of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) have sent a notice to influencers, YouTubers and content creators to call on them to declare their income and pay their taxes.

In total, 120 content creators on social networks have received notices, with a view to regularizing their tax situation for the last three years of activity, reports the Arabic-language daily Assabah. According to the first estimates of the last three years, the amount is around 45 million dirhams. This amount could be revised upwards depending on the number of views and subscribers of these channels. By sending notices, the services of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) are prioritizing the awareness of offenders. This is to get them to pay up amicably to avoid other channels, including seizure operations to settle unpaid taxes.

"Some content creators earn more than 100,000 dirhams per month, which places them in the category of income exceeding the sum of 1,200,000 dirhams per year," the same sources indicate, specifying that "this category falls under the heading subject to withholding at a rate of 38%," it is specified.
