Morocco Cracks Down on Land Fraud: Prosecutors Urged to Scrutinize Digital Property Records

Faced with land grabbing, the presidency of the public prosecutor’s office calls on prosecutors to be more vigilant in the electronic processing of files.
Instructions have been given by the presidency of the public prosecutor’s office to all the prosecutors of the king regarding property certificates, architectural plans and coordinates processed electronically, reports l’Économiste.
In the processing of these files, the prosecutors of the king are invited to take into account decree n°2-18-181 setting the conditions and procedures for the electronic processing of these operations. As for the property certificate in particular, it has an authentication code, it is indicated.
In this regard, the magistrates must verify its authenticity via the platform of the National Agency for Land Conservation, Cadastre and Cartography, as recalled by the circular dated May 19, 2020. It aims to preserve the rights of litigants and the legal security of real estate transactions.
