Morocco Couple Under Investigation for Alleged Child Abuse and Severe Burns

A couple, suspected of having assaulted their 7-year-old daughter, is the subject of an investigation opened on Monday by the judicial police brigade of Taroudant. The body of the little girl would have been exposed to second-degree burns.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicates that its services reacted seriously to the alert of a citizen, who heard the cries of the victim, coming from the family home. A judicial investigation has therefore been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to verify the suspicion of a criminal offense, after the medical examination reported second-degree burns on the limbs and intimate parts of the little girl.
According to the DGSN, the preliminary data from the investigation showed that the suspects had actually exposed their daughter to burns in several parts of her body. The reasons and circumstances of these physical abuse remain to be determined by the ongoing investigation, notes MAP.
For now, the father has been taken into custody, while the mother is being prosecuted at large. The victim, for her part, is being treated and subjected to the necessary medical examinations.
