Morocco Considers VAT Exemption on Essential Goods to Combat Inflation

Opposition MPs continue to call for the exemption of Value Added Tax (VAT) on all basic high-consumption products in order to support the purchasing power of Moroccans in this period of inflation.
The government is working to support the purchasing power of Moroccans, said Nadia Fettah Alaoui, the Minister of Economy and Finance during a plenary session at the House of Representatives, specifying that the slight increase in VAT on certain products is part of the implementation of the recommendations of the third national dialogue on taxation.
The official did not fail to recall that the Akhannouch government has already exempted certain basic high-consumption products from VAT in the 2024 finance law, adding that the Moroccan Executive has also studied the impact of the overall tax reform on the purchasing power of Moroccans, taking into account the subsidy granted to vulnerable groups over the period 2024-2026.
