Morocco confirms its rising financial power according to Fitch

Morocco, along with Mexico, is the main host of IMQR (Investment Management Quality Ratings) ratings at the national level. This is the finding of the new Fitch Ratings report.

According to this report published on November 19, the Moroccan financial market is establishing itself as a key market in the evaluation of funds and asset managers. Morocco owes this progress in particular to the Casablanca Stock Exchange and the growth of institutional funds. Moroccan managers must meet specific criteria such as governance, risk management, operational soundness and the ability to generate value, in order to maintain this trajectory and attract more foreign capital.

Morocco hosts the majority of IMQR ratings at the national level, as their regulations and supervisory practices differ from international standards, the Fitch report states. This distinction justifies the local scale, and not just a quest for alignment, it is specified. Fitch’s IMQR ratings rank managers from "weak" to "excellent". They provide an international grid. The existence of the national rating allows to evaluate local players in a fair and relevant way compared to their domestic peers, it is indicated.

Regarding performance, Fitch notes that 71% of international (not global) IMQR ratings obtain the "excellent" rating. It is up to Moroccan players to position themselves favorably on the national scale and to lend credibility to their expertise as reliable partners in financial flows.

IMQ Ratings can be applied at different levels: manager, strategy, fund or mandate, the report points out. This benefits Morocco, which sees its alternative strategies (venture capital, private equity) gaining in strength. This flexibility indeed opens the way for recognition of venture capital funds and Early Stage financing structures. The kingdom could appear in the eyes of international investors, who are increasingly attentive to emerging markets, as a favorable terrain for their ambitions.

Several reforms have been undertaken by Morocco to modernize its financial sector, in particular through the Investment Charter and the development of the Casablanca Stock Exchange as a regional platform. These initiatives are in perfect harmony with the IMQR criteria, which value the ability of managers to operate within a solid regulatory framework and to demonstrate a strategic vision.
