Morocco Confirms First Two Cases of Indian COVID-19 Variant in Casablanca

Morocco is affected by the Indian variant. The Ministry of Health confirms that two cases have indeed been detected in Casablanca.
In a press release, the Ministry of Health states that the Epidemiological Surveillance System and the Contact and Outbreak Management System have recorded, in Casablanca, two confirmed cases of infection with the Indian variant of the new coronavirus, which is spreading rapidly according to the scientific community.
The department of Khalid Aït Taleb specifies that the first case was recorded in a person coming from abroad and the second in one of his contacts, a foreigner residing in Morocco. The infection by the new variant was confirmed by the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research in Rabat, a member of the National Coalition of Genomic Surveillance Laboratories, adds the same source, ensuring that the two cases and all their contacts have been taken care of in accordance with the applicable international and national protocols, with reinforcement of sanitary isolation measures, to address the risks of spreading this strain.
The ministry intends to continue the investigations and measures aimed at preventing the spread of this strain in Morocco. It has also committed to continue informing the national public opinion of all developments in the situation. In order to curb the spread of the coronavirus and its variants, it calls on citizens to continue to respect the precautionary rules and to engage with patriotism and responsibility in the preventive measures and measures taken by the Kingdom.
