Morocco Confirms First Two Cases of Indian COVID-19 Variant in Casablanca

Morocco now has two cases of the Indian variant of Covid-19. It is a Moroccan and an Indian residing in Casablanca. The first case, the Indian national who arrived in Morocco just before the suspension of air links, was confirmed on April 24.
The two cases were detected in Casablanca. "It is an Indian and a Moroccan. They are currently hospitalized at Moulay Youssef Hospital and all 17 contact cases have tested negative," Moulay Saïd Afif, member of the National Scientific Committee for Vaccination and president of the Moroccan Society of Medical Sciences, told Le360.
The expert also specifies that the Indian variant is more virulent and more contagious than the British variant and calls on citizens to "continue to adopt barrier measures until collective immunity is achieved".
