Morocco Intensifies Efforts to Contain Spread of Dangerous Covid-19 Indian Variant

Since the detection in Morocco of two confirmed cases of the formidable Indian variant, the health authorities, who were on the alert, have activated the special device set up to slow the progression of this strain known to be more dangerous. This strategy focuses on contact cases to contain this strain known for its speed and dangerousness.

Following the issue closely, the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia indicates that the deployed device first consisted of putting the infected people under treatment. After this step, exchanges with the infected people made it possible to clearly identify the 17 contact persons who were, in turn, placed under reinforced surveillance for a period of at least 14 days as required by the health protocol. These 17 people were identified for having been in contact with the infected, two days before the onset of the first symptoms until the 14th day of the disease.

Morocco, recalls the publication, had put in place an anticipatory strategy to manage the crisis of the Indian variant. Since April 24, and while no case had yet been detected in the kingdom, all flights to or from India have been suspended to prevent this new, more contagious variant from spreading to Morocco.

Still in its logic of anticipation, the authorities, fearing an infection of the Indian variant, had called on Moroccans to be vigilant and to strictly respect the restrictive prevention measures. This call had been launched by Professor Said Afif, member of the national technical vaccination committee.
